Wine, olive oil and Iberian ham. Here are three pillars of Andalusian gastronomy, which are also emblematic products of Spanish cuisine. And we are talking here about absolutely gourmet products, produced by equally iconic brands, which represent the best you can find in the market.
We brought them together on the same 3 nights trip to Seville.
About wine, we take you to the “Marco de Jerez-Sherry” Denomination of Origin, to the three major production sites, which form the three corners of the aptly-named “golden triangle”: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlucar de Barameda… with three legendary wineries: Tío Pepe (Gonzalez Byass), Osborne and Barbadillo.
Tío Pepe is the flagship brand of Gonzalez Byass group, one of the most important historic family businesses in Jerez de la Frontera (1835). If you have not yet tasted its wines, you surely know its logo, a true icon in the history of advertising in Spain. Visiting the bodega helps to understand the crazy history of the city, and it is a must for all sherry lovers.
In the nearby town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, Osborne will reveal the secrets of another monument of Spanish popular imagery, which has become a symbol of the entire country and which is taught in communication schools: the bull of the highway. But here, it is mostly located about good wine, and the visit of the historic Bodegas de Moro must not be missed. The restaurant in the bodega itself is the icing on the cake.
Then we close the triangle with the visit of Barbadillo in Sanlúcar de Barameda, small coastal town at the mouth of the Guadalquivir, facing the Doñana National Park. Here the star is the manzanilla, and a pure local production with its proper Denomination of Origin. Follow your expert guide and discover the fascinating history of a company founded in 1821, one of the oldest in the region.
