The region of Penedès, located just 30 minutes from Barcelona and Tarragona, nestled between beautiful beaches and the protection with mountains in the interior, has a remarkable landscape characterised by lush vineyards dotted with country houses, unique historical sites and a host of wineries that have made the Penedès region internationally famous. This region, with more than 2700 years of history in growing grapes and producing wine, is home to exceptional quality wines and sparkling wines that are made under the Cava and Penedés Designations of Origen.
The influence of the Mediterranean Sea and of the sun make the Penedès a favoured territory for winegrowing. In this outstanding setting, enjoying the sun in the vineyards, strolling around villages and towns and discovering the wines offered by local wineries, makes for an exhilarating experience.
Penedès is known for its wine capitals Vilafranca del Penedès and Sant Sadurni d’Anoia. Vilafranca del Penedès, capital of DO Penedès, located in the province of Barcelona, is a city where you can meet, learn and enjoy its exciting wine history and activities at the Museum of Wine. While Sant Sadurni d’Anoia is the home and capital of Cava, where 90% of Spanish Cava is produced. It is located in the Alt Penedès region, is a quiet town of almost 13,000 inhabitants, surrounded by a magnificent natural environment of vineyards. The landscape of vineyards and wineries are the main attractions of the area, present in all kinds of events: architecture, industry and cultural activities. Once in Sant Sadurni, you will be able to learn about the history of Cava, dating back to 1872 when Josep Raventós produced the first bottles.
