Ribera del Duero
Tailor-Made Red Wine Experiences
Nestled in the plains of Castilla y León in Northern Spain, the region of Ribera del Duero has an unusual beauty of the landscapes that remind of the desert. Regardless of being a relatively young Denomination, Ribera del Duero is one of the most reputable and internationally recognised homes to some of the best wines in the world. Located on a vast plateau between the Castilla-Leon provinces of Soria, Burgos, Segovia and Valladolid, Ribera del Duero is spread along the river Duero, from which this Designation takes its name.
The capital of the DO is Aranda del Duero. This city that welcomes the river Duero under its bridges is known for its underground wineries. Penafiel´s medieval castle is home to a wine museum that features all the DOs of Castilla y Leon. Valladolid the capital of Castilla y León is another city possessing a vast historical and cultural heritage, like the monasteries that historically were responsible for the development of winemaking in this area.
Any experienced traveller would agree that the authenticity of a restaurant can be judged by the number of locals in the dining room. The same logic applied to Spanish wine would point out Ribera. And what makes this wine even more wonderful journey is the local dish lechazo asado – a roast suckling lamb that, truth be told, seems to have been put on earth to be paired with the deep flavours of Ribera del Duero wines.
